How to Prevent Cancer – 08 – CAN YOU DETOXIFY
Knowing what's toxic and how toxins actually influence our life and our health is one thing, but knowing about the detoxification pathway and how it works is something totally different and just as important. There are many modalities to look at, not only with regards to what kind of detox agents we can take, but also how your body works and how your body is able to detoxify itself of heavy metals and plastics.
This is why I would like to look at something that we call the nutrigenomic DNA report. It's quite new (6 – 8 years old) but is not often taken advantage of in conventional medicine, which is unfortunate because it's very helpful to know. It's especially important because there are many areas that can be impaired.
Plastic toxins, PCB's BPA's and heavy metals are all leeching on to the DNA and causing a mutagenic toxicity that is passed on to the next generation. So people can actually be born with a detox problem that is already programmed into their DNA. This can mean that it's possible that from birth your liver detoxification pathways 1 or 2 can be dysfunctional.
You can see from the Can You Detoxify image that the top five test areas pertain to detox phase 1 and the remaining ones at the bottom involve detox phase 2 pathways. Toxins are broken down in the two phases we've just mentioned. Phase 1 makes the material water soluble to ensure it's digestible for the body. The second phase transports it out of your body (in simple terms.) When these areas are impaired it means that toxins cannot be cleaned out by your liver.
Detox phase 1 actually makes everything water soluble, which in some cases can be even more dangerous because all of a sudden it can be absorbed into every cell. That is where we need to be careful. Let's say you have a very powerful detox phase 1, but detox phase 2 is impaired. You can break down all your toxins so that they are nice and water soluble, but then they can't leave your body! This means they continually recycle through your system and they can be absorbed into any cell.
Now if detox phase 1 and 2 are impaired, this is also bad. This means that you cannot breakdown or get rid of toxins at all. Then it's just a slow-motion buildup of material. Your body is never cleaned out and it just starts to accumulate a lot of toxins until it overflows and you develop symptoms like cancer or degenerative diseases. In the case of the image above, the person who had the test was very impaired. They were highly sensitive to any kind of toxicity, no matter whether it was medication or any kind of environmental toxicity, it instantly built up and they had massive side effects.
This is what you can see in a toxicological report, whether you do a chelation test or a standard scanning toxicity test. You will often find high levels of aluminium or silver or mercury. If they are in the red then the body is saturated with those heavy metals. The tests will show you how your body deals with them, which kinds of toxins can be detoxified, and which ones can't.
The detoxification chart above is quite representative of someone who is at risk or who has just been diagnosed with cancer. Think about what they are then going to have to go through. That's right. Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a toxic agent used to kill off cancer cells, but it also kills of your immune system as well as destroying and mutating healthy cells. It causes a whole lot of havoc in your body and if your liver function is impaired you can't get rid of it! This means it's recycling over and over again and causing massive side effects such as health loss, strong nausea, and other serious health issues.
People who have working non-impaired detox pathways don't feel these symptoms as much. They shrug it off. They can even keep their hair! Some of them do really well. That's something that could be checked prior to being put on any medication. The process of checking your DNA impairments in comparison to the medication that you're supposed to take is called pharmacogenomics. Pharmacogenomics will tell you whether these kinds of pathways to detoxify this specific agent actually works in your body. If it doesn't, stay away from it because it's going to cause serious damage. If you can't get rid of it and you are just pumping yourself full of that drug it can be the cause of death.
We see that not only with cancer but with vaccinations in children. If young children who have those detox pathways impaired get that high load of toxicity into their body, some of them shrug it off, they walk out the next day and go back to school, but some of them have seizures and really devastating traumas. It's something that needs to be checked before you expose your body to any kind of toxicity.
All of these different pathways describe different types of the process and what type of toxins can be detoxified. So looking for a physician and practitioner who has knowledge before they give you medication or put you on to a generalized detoxification program is really important.
In his situation we would work on all detours. Getting toxins out through the kidneys instead of through the liver would be one way. You do this by introducing chelating agents that bind to the toxins which you are then able to urinate out.
You would also go into a daily sauna which helps get rid of toxins through the skin. Possibly coffee enemas, which kick out toxins straight away, or bind them with citrus pectin and plenty of other fibrous materials which take them out of the body so they cannot be reabsorbed. There are plenty of ways to do it, but you need to be intelligent in your process and choices.
Another factor which you can read about, and I won't go into too much detail here, is with regards to MTHFI impairment. If you have DNA damage and you cannot methylate certain products, it's like taking toxins as supplementation. Let's say you take medication and supplements which contain folate. If you cannot methylate then that folate is not translated into an active form (methylated) which means it creates a folate block. This can already be a cause of cancer. That's proven.
So don't underestimate the value of a DNA test. If you have someone who is knowledgeable in using it in conjunction with your cancer treatment it's phenomenal because you can actually read how your body works! You can read which pathways are impaired and which ones aren't. And if you have those pathways active then you don't need to worry! But if they aren't then you need to take different types of medication or supplementation.
With regards to methylation I would just like to mention very briefly that it covers a lot of ground. It's related to so many issues that should not be underestimated. If you don't want to do a whole methylation test (nutrigenomic DNA test) you should at least ask your doctor for an MTHFI impairments test. MTHFI impairments affect whether you can repair things such as the myelin sheaths of your nerves. It affects whether you can start building glutathione (which is the master antioxidant.) If you do in fact have an impairment in creating methylation or glutathione then you have reduced antioxidant function, reduced detoxification capacity, and free radical damage will run rampant in your body. So it's relevant in almost all situations. And from all the cancer patients that we've tested about 30 to 40% have had that impairment so it's definitely something worth knowing so that on one side you can support and repair, and the other side you can bypass all those problems and potential side effects.
The DNA (nutrigenomic) test would cover many areas. It covers everything with regards to autoimmune diseases – whether your body has the ability to repair or not – it covers inflammation and a whole host of other problems. Now, we know that inflammation is about 50% related to all cancers. Cancer causes massive inflammation, but inflammation also causes cancer. It occupies your immune system so much so that your body doesn't have the time or energy to take care of and resolve the cancer cells. It's very bad to have inflammation! We will cover that in more depth in the physical department. If, like me, your inflammation pathway is completely impaired and you are unable to resolve it at that stage then you need to stop the cause of the inflammation.
